2013 SBR Toy Ride

Each December Mike organizes the SBR Toy Ride in conjunction with the San Mateo County fire Department. Each rider is to bring a new, unwrapped toy for a child in need during the Christmas season. I’ve never been able to do this ride until this year. I’m almost always on a plane back home to visit the family as this ride is usually the weekend before Christmas.

Mike does an excellent job coordinating all of the details for the ride. All you have to do is show up with your toy. Whenever I done these sorts of things in the past, I usually like to find a toy that I find cool. Target on the Sunday before Christmas even at 8 AM is a lot to take in. I was surprised how its parking lot and aisles were even at such an early hour. The toy aisles were filled with kids browsing to see what Santa might bring them in just a few days time.

Philanthropy has long been part of motorcycling culture. Whether it is the Ride for Kids, Ride Across America, AIDS Lifecycle, Tour De Cure… motorcyclists give back. It’s great to see that our community gives to the greater good. In the same vein, one of the founding principles of Homoto was community service and something we look for as a body of riders.

We couldn’t have had a better winter day for the ride. The temperatures were right around 70° and there wasn’t a cloud in sight. I haven’t seen a number of the riders in this crowd for at least a year. It was great to catch up with everyone.
