I’ll admit I’ve been a fan of the PC be it in Windows or Linux form. It wasn’t until 2004 that I really began to use the Macintosh when I was a QA lead for Dreamweaver. I’d used Mac OS 9 in school and that product never resonated with me. After the release of Mac OS X I was much more interested in the Macintosh as it had a Unix core and an environment in which I was much more comfortable. For a number of releases of Dreamweaver I committed to learn the Macintosh and how to make that product on the Mac platform better.
It wasn’t until 2009 that I actually owned an Apple product. I’d had a standard 12 key phone well beyond it’s time. Hell, my mom had an iPhone before I did! After a few weeks with the iPhone I personally realized why the world loved them. It was a wonderful and game changing product. I love mine and am looking forward to the iPhone 4S.
Over the years I’d heard a number of war stories nth-hand about Steve’s passion for Apple. Just recently a friend who spent a lot of time at Apple talked about Steve’s heart and how he loved technology and how down to earth as a person he actually was. That friend pointed me to his commencement address at Stanford in 2005. That 20 minutes was truly fascinating. It was great to see Steve’s perspective, humor, and human side as he shared his heart that day. He really made me think about some things in my own life. In particular his comment: “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.”
Looking at all he’s accomplished he’s made amazing amounts of contribution to technology. Far beyond his accomplishments in technology, his contributions to the human race will long be remembered. Thank you Steve, for your gift. Thank you for all that you gave.
The featured photo was from the iPad 2 launch. Steve was thanking all the families of the company for their sacrifices for Apple. He didn’t lose sight of their contribution to Apple.
Rest in peace…. the world lost a great leader today. 🙁
